The Farmers Arms in Goldcliff has entered a new chapter, having been purchased for continued use by local buyers.
Set on Goldcliff Road, close to the Newport Wetlands, the Farmers Arms has long been more than simply somewhere to enjoy a drink. It has been a destination for food, family occasions, Sunday lunches and community gatherings, serving locals and visitors in an idyllic rural setting.
The Farmers Arms is a pub with a long local identity. Local pub historians have recorded several names associated with the building. According to the late Monmouthshire historian Fred Hando, the inn was known variously as the Farmers' Arms, the Dealers' Den and the Glupot. Today, its identity is rather more straightforward.
CAMRA describes the Farmers Arms as an independent gastro pub and restaurant, highlighting its use of local produce and its countryside location close to the Newport Wetlands. Its facilities have included a garden, parking, family-friendly areas, restaurant space and live music.
The pub occupies an interesting position: sufficiently rural to feel like a traditional country inn, but close enough to Newport and the wetlands to attract visitors from beyond the immediate village.
The Farmers Arms has been sold off an asking price of £375,000.
