Plunkett achieves this by supporting people throughout the UK to set up and run a wide range of community-owned businesses such as village shops and pubs, through to woodlands, farms and fisheries.

As the only organisation dedicated to supporting rural community-owned businesses across the UK, Plunkett provides practical support through specialist business advice, training, webinars and toolkits and represents its members’ interests through policy, research and advocacy.

Community-owned businesses play a vitally important role in rural life. As well as saving much-loved and much-needed local services, they also address a variety of issues facing rural communities including isolation and loneliness, and the lack of access to employment and training opportunities.

Across the UK, community-owned businesses are making a difference to the people and areas they serve through five impact areas:
