The Business
Ocean Backpackers is a thriving, independent, self-catering hostel and guests have full access to the ground floor kitchen. The hostel has been under our clients’ ownership since July 2022 and since taking on the business, they have sympathetically restored the property, giving it a new lease of life and achieving great reviews online. It is popular with a variety of groups but most notably divers, surfers and coastal walkers. In addition, it also appeals to families and European tourists and is occasionally booked on an exclusive hire basis, particularly by groups of wedding guests attending celebrations in the vicinity.
We have been advised that the business currently trades around the VAT threshold to suit our client’s lifestyle. Due to other business commitments, they currently employ a manager to help run the business during the height of summer. In recent years, the business has experienced annual net turnover figures of around £120,000 and our clients advise there is potential to achieve more by increasing the hostel’s opening hours. (Note: at present, Ocean Backpackers only operates between the months of April and October).
Our clients are selling the hostel to free up more time to focus on their retail business. There is scope for a new owner to build relationships with schools, scout groups and Duke of Edinburgh groups. Alternatively, a new owner may seek alternative commercial or residential use, subject to planning permission. Further accounting information may be made available to serious parties following a formal viewing.
